Creating a safe and welcoming environment starts at the front door. Every visitor plays a role in helping us protect students and staff.
Highline has always had clear procedures for visitor check-in, but this year we’re applying them more consistently across all schools.
All visitors are verified through the school’s intercom and camera system before entering the building. Once verified, visitors should go directly to the main office to sign in and wear a visitor badge for the duration of their visit.
This has always been our procedure, but you may notice it feels different this year as we apply it more consistently across all schools. We know this may take some getting used to, and we appreciate your support and patience as we reinforce this safety practice.
Our front office staff play an important role in keeping schools secure. They greet, verify and welcome every visitor. Their work helps ensure safety while maintaining the warm, culture of belonging our schools are known for.
Families can help by making sure no one enters a secured door behind them. Even if you recognize the person, please don’t hold the door open.
If it feels uncomfortable to close the door behind you, you can simply say:
“Our schools are verifying all visitors prior to entry—you can find the bell here.”
These small actions make a big difference in keeping our schools safe and welcoming for every student, family, and staff member.
