Departments ( 3 Specializations)
At OMS, our academic structure is now centered around three core maritime disciplines, each designed according to international maritime schools and aligned with Oman Vision 2040. These departments represent the essential pillars of modern maritime education and provide students with both foundational knowledge (Grades 9–10) and specialized professional training (Grades 11–12).
1. Mariners Department
This department prepares students for future careers at sea, covering seamanship, navigation principles, maritime safety, communication systems, and the fundamentals of marine operations. Students engage with simulation-based training, practical exercises, and introductory STCW-aligned content to build the skills required for life and work aboard vessels.
2. Shipbuilding & Repair Department
Focusing on the technical heart of maritime industries, this department introduces students to marine engineering basics, ship structure, welding and fabrication techniques, marine mechanical systems, and modern ship maintenance practices. Hands-on workshop learning is central to this track, preparing graduates for technical careers in shipyards, repair facilities, and engineering pathways.
3. Port Operations Department
Designed for students interested in the logistics and operations side of the maritime world, this department covers port management fundamentals, cargo handling, maritime logistics, terminal operations, safety procedures, and the movement of goods through modern port systems. Students gain practical insights into how ports serve as engines of national and international trade.
OMS Approach
All three departments were developed after reviewing international models from Japan, the Philippines, and the United States, ensuring global standards while addressing Oman’s strategic maritime priorities. Equipped with modern laboratories, workshops, and simulation technologies, OMS provides an integrated education that combines theory, hands-on training, and real-world maritime exposure.
