STEP 1: Explore your options
What is your post-secondary plan for life after high school? Consider what pathway, college, program and/or job you’re interested in.
- Take a few moments to reflect.
- Capture the vision of your life in your after high school statement.
- Your statement should include what pathway, career interest or educational path you seek in your future. Also, include the location in your statement this could be a specific college, industry or company.
- If you are still developing your plan, capture this in your statement.
- Putting your plan into words will help you and others determine your next steps!
Example 1: I plan to attend Highline College, studying Cyber Security while working part-time at the Matt Griffin YMCA as a lifeguard. I plan to live at home with my family.
Example 2: I plan to attend Renton Tech College full-time in the carpentry apprenticeship program.
Example 3: I’m still developing my plan for after high school, but I hope to work in the medical field and stay close to home.

STEP 3: Complete financial aid
Filing your Financial Aid is the first step to securing money for college. Financial Aid Applications open October 1. Oman Public High School is offering Financial Aid completion sessions where you and your family can complete your application with a trained financial aid expert. Events will be provided via the senior scoop monthly and parent square.
Most plans will require students to obtain some form of training or education after high school. If so, completing a financial aid application is essential to fund your training/education.
The only way to find out what type of aid you are eligible for is to complete a FAFSA or WASFA.
If you are planning to do an apprenticeship, attend a 2-year technical program or college, or a 4-year college, your next step is completing your Financial Aid Application! If you’re planning to continue to work, we still encourage you to complete an application. There are an abundance of opportunities and sometimes plans change, so having your financial aid complete is a great way to stay a step ahead.
FAFSA
Before each year of college, apply for federal grants, work-study and loans with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form. Your college uses your FAFSA data to determine your federal aid eligibility. Many states and colleges use FAFSA data to award their own aid. After submission, you’ll receive your Student Aid Report (SAR report).
WASFA
Complete the Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA) if you are undocumented or do not qualify for federal financial aid because of immigration status. If you complete a WASFA, your information will not be shared with your school. You are not required to disclose your immigration status to any staff members. If you have completed the FAFSA, you have already applied for federal and state financial aid and do not need to complete the WASFA unless your college asks you to.
