Elementary Classroom Additions

UPDATE: 11 new classrooms (three buildings) are planned for now, rather than 13 (four buildings).

Thanks to a bill passed by the 2015 Legislature to help achieve lower student to teacher ratios in kindergarten through third grade, Highline was awarded more than $6 million in April 2016 to construct 13 new classrooms. The grant funds require permanent or modular buildings, and may NOT be used for portables. 

The district set aside approximately $2.25 million in the capital fund for 2016-17, normally budgeted for portables, to match its local share of the grant. The 13 classrooms are estimated to cost $8.5 million.

District staff studied the best locations for the additional classrooms based on projected growth, current needs, available space on site and access to utilities. Integrus Architecture was selected to provide planning, architectural and engineering services for the project.
